Jet 1610 Vertical Metal Bandsaw – Safety & Operation Overview

Before operating the bandsaw, ensure you've read the operator’s manual thoroughly. Make sure the machine is stable and all guards are securely in place. Inspect the blade for wear

Wear safety glasses or a face shield, ear protection, and non-slip footwear. Avoid gloves, loose clothing, or jewelry that could catch in the moving blade.

Set the blade speed according to the material you're cutting. This saw uses a crank handle to adjust a pulley system to change blade speeds. Only turn the adjustment wheel while the motor is ON and the blade is spinning. Use the speed chart on the saw inside the upper door to determine the correct surface feet per minute (SFPM) for materials like mild steel or aluminum. You do not need to move the high/low lever, it should always be in low speed.

Before cutting, adjust the blade guides just above the workpiece. Support the material firmly on the table or with a jig, and use push sticks for smaller parts. Feed material slowly—don’t force it—allowing the blade to do the work. Keep your hands clear of the blade path at all times. Use a little WD40 for cutting aluminum or the white rustlick fluid for steel. These fluids can be found in squeeze bottle in the metal shop area. Alert a tech if more is needed.

After use, clean metal chips from the table and guides, and inspect the blade for wear. If you notice excessive vibration, wandering cuts, or unusual noise, stop the machine and alert a shop tech.

Never cut materials beyond the rated capacity, and avoid modifying safety features. Familiarize yourself with the location of the emergency stop switch and always prioritize caution.

Cutting Notes

Always use cutting oil.

A good starting speed for mild steel 60 meters per minute; adjust as needed.
